HOW TO BUILD A HOUSE ON A ROCK AND A HOUSE BUILT ON SAND
JEREMIAH 17:8 “HE WILL BE STRONG, LIKE A TREE PLANTED NEAR WATER. THAT TREE HAS LARGE ROOTS THAT FIND THE WATER. IT IS NOT AFRAID WHEN THE DAYS ARE HOT. ITS LEAVES ARE ALWAYS GREEN. IT DOES NOT WORRY IN A YEAR WHEN NO RAIN COMES. THAT TREE ALWAYS PRODUCES FRUIT.” (ICB)

This session is great for kids and families and teaches us how life is better when we have a relationship with God and how the Bible can always bring us HOPE.
Do you know that God says that if we plant ourselves in Him, we will be like a tree which is planted next to a river? Trees that have enough water usually flourish and grow to become big and strong. Depending on the type of tree, maybe even have lots of green leaves, fruits or flowers! So how do we plant ourselves in God? We can plant ourselves in God by talking to Him, praying to Him and reading His Word. God also says that if we have a relationship with Him, we will be like a house that is built on a rock rather than a house that is built on sand.
“Everyone who hears these things I say and obeys them is like a wise man. The wise man built his house on rock. It rained hard and the water rose. The winds blew and hit that house. But the house did not fall, because the house was built on rock. But the person who hears the things I teach and does not obey them is like a foolish man. The foolish man built his house on sand. It rained hard, the water rose, and the winds blew and hit that house. And the house fell with a big crash.” – Matthew 7:24-27 (ICB)
For today’s fun faith building activity we are going to test what happens to houses that are built on rocks versus houses that are built on sand!
A BAKING TRAY
A CUP OF FLOUR
TWO LEGO BRICKS
ONE STONE
A CUP OF WATER
Watch the video and join us in testing what happens to a house that is built on a rock versus a house that is built on sand!
It’s easy to see which house is stronger. The house that was built on the rock stood firm when the water came pouring down and the house that was built on the sand completely crumbled away! Remember that if we build our lives on God and His promises, we will be strong just like the Lego brick that was built on the rock!
