LET THE WORD OF GOD THRIVE

MĀORI/ENGLISH BIBLE

Connect with God through this inspiring version of the Māori/English Bible

Tēnā koutou. We have been extremely pleased with the overwhelming response to our new edition Bilingual Māori/English Bible. The interest in this Bible has meant that we have had to organise a second print run since our initial launch back in January 2022, which clearly indicates how popular the Bible has been with both te reo speakers and those learning the language as well as the increasing interest from within the wider community.

It has side by side Māori and English text, as well as an inspiring introduction from Te Ātipīhopa o Aotearoa, the most Reverend Don Tamihere. The Bible is presented in three beautiful cover designs, including a rich leather tukutuku weaved cross version, and colourful red and green covers with a mirroring koru, representing the two languages and their relationship with each other.

The 1990s bilingual edition consisted of the 1952 Paipera Tapu text, together with the King James Version, however, this new edition includes the 2012 reformatted Paipera Tapu and the New Revised Standard Version

Bible Society New Zealand believes that the Bible is for everyone and that is why we continue our practice of also gifting this important taonga to Governor Generals when they assume office. We have recently gifted the new bilingual Māori-English Bible to our current Governor General, Her Excellency, Dame Cindy Kiro whom acknowledges the importance of this taonga to Government house. Here is a short video of her appreciation and validation of the important work that Bible Society does in helping make the Bible accessible to everyone.

  • Side by side English and Māori text
  • Three beautifully designed covers to choose from

Bonded Leather Black

Made of bonded leather, this classic Bible is simple but beautiful. Silver detailing glows against its dark backdrop, accompanied by silver-edged pages, with red and black ribbons tastefully tying everything together. The tukutuku cross design on the cover is inspired by the Māori tukutuku weaving technique, where many weaved x’s are used to create patterns, often with associated symbolism. Here the x’s form a cross, the refined centrepiece of this Bible’s cover.

Imitation Leather RED

Covered in a popular synthetic material used for many Bibles, this matte cover is soft to the touch and rich in tone. The two koru on the front represent the two languages of English and te reo Māori, as they grow alongside each other in a direct relationship. Honouring traditional Māori colours, the red and black colour combo creates a striking effect that is carried onto the matching red and black ribbons. Subtle stitching and debossing provide tactility, giving a touch of class to this gorgeous Bible.

Hard Cover Dark Green

Beautifully constructed, this hardcover Bible is bound in deep shades of green, has two green ribbons, and is complemented with gold detailing. Specialist stitching contributes to a tactile, high-quality feel. Koru designs form a strip down the front cover, their mirroring pairs representing the two languages of English and te reo Māori , as they grow alongside each other in a direct relationship.

Te Paipera Tapu - Māori Bible

Mobile App – available now

Te Paipera Tapu has come a long way since the very first publication of the full Bible in Māori in 1868. Now, you can read it on the move with Bible Society’s new mobile app. The app features the very latest edition of Te Paipera Tapu (not available on any other app or website) which was reformatted to include macrons in 2012. The app also features a number of English translations – including the Good News Bible and the Contemporary English Version. This makes it great for second language learners of Māori, who can compare the same passage in Māori and English. To download the app visit the Apple store or Google Play.
